The dissertation, of between 8,000 and 12,000 words, will normally be linked to a semester-one History programme elective but this is a matter for negotiation with your supervisor. The dissertation will allow you to engage in personalised research, into questions or source genres of interest to you.
Keele is exciting and innovative place in which to study History. Our undergraduate history programmes are broad and innovative, ranging from the medieval past to the present day, and our students are happy to be here. The Hugh Leech Memorial Fund was opened in 1967 after the death of Hugh Leech, then a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History, to provide financial assistance to Keele students for the purpose of study in Europe. The Scholarship, deriving from the interest of the Fund, which remains open, was established in 1972.
The history of History at Keele History was one of the founding departments of the university when Keele opened in 1950. Many of the early lecturers came from Oxford University and the History syllabus was based on Oxford's.
